News & Updates

The Meserani Project was set up by the pupils, staff, parents and friends of Acklam Grange School Middlesbrough. It has brought together young people from Africa and Teesside, and has made a huge impact on the lives of many children and families in developing areas of Kenya and Tanzania.
To date eight classrooms have been built, furnished and equipped in two primary schools in Meserani, Tanzania, and twenty-five pupils from these schools are currently being sponsored to attend Einoti Secondary School.

A recent and exciting development of the project is to sponsor pupils to attend Moita Boys Secondary Boarding School and Kipok Girls Secondary Boarding School, in Monduli. In January 2011 thirteen boys started their secondary education at Moita School, and sixteen girls started their secondary education at Kipok School. This means that fifty-four pupils from the Meserani region are currently going through their secondary education.Moita Boys-Feb 11Kipok Girls-Feb 11

The latest developments, started in September 2011, are to commit ourselves to the two projects detailed below:
Provide seven 5,000 litre water containers for Kipok Girls Secondary Boarding School and Moita Boys Secondary Boarding School.
Build and equip tow classrooms at Meserani Chini Primary School.

If you would like to help our charity, there are a number of options open to you:

You could host an African Jewellery & Handicraft Sale, (we will provide everything for you).

You could organise a fundraising event yourself.

You may have links or access to commercial organisations who may wish to support our charity.

You may wish to fund a water tank for one of the secondary boarding schools, (these two schools are in remote, desolate locations, and currently pupils have to walk many miles each day to collect water, thereby taking time out of their studies). The cost of each water tank is £295 and we would make sure that the water tank had your name on it - a lasting and meaningful legacy for you!

However, the best way that you can currently make a meaningful difference is to sponsor a pupil to go to secondary school. There are two boarding schools about one hour’s drive from Meserani, both with excellent reputations. If you sponsor a pupil to attend one of these schools, not only will you be providing them with their four years of secondary education, but you will also be providing them with accommodation, food, books, paper, writing equipment, a mathematical set, a dictionary, full school uniform, footwear, sports kit, casual clothes, a metal security box, a mattress and blanket, a mosquito net, gardening and cleaning tools, all transport at the start and end of each term, and healthcare.
